◊ How the Gumpack works

The Gumpak is worn over the shoulder of a cleaning operative and contains a small gas aerosol can, a small lithium rechargeable battery, our unique 12 volt pump and a bottle of gum removal solution.

The pump supplies 30ml of cleaning solution per minute via a flexible hose to the cleaning lance where it is vaporised by a hollow coil made with aircraft grade stainless steel. This provides a constant supply of vaporised chemical at the point of contact.

The combination of pressure, heat and cleaning solution means that a wad of gum can be removed in just 3 seconds - one cleaning operative can remove over 1000 pieces of gum per hour. This is more than double the efficiency of the best possible alternative.

Other benefits:

No external power source - no trailing leads or generators.
Completely silent - cleaning operations can be carried out at night.
Portable and safe - cleaning can also be carried out during busy times, generating great positive PR and press coverage.
Environmentally friendly - our unique cleaning solution is manufactured from renewable sources and is based on a sugar surfactant rather than oil based making it completely bio-degradable.
The cleaning lance has no moving parts - no servicing costs or replacement parts required.

The chemical, gas and brass brushes are supplied together in a box that contains 2 bottles of gas, 4 bottles of gum solution and 6 brass brushes to allow 6 hours of continuous gum removal.

◊ Chewing gum removal

The old method of chewing gum removal was by high pressure washing using around 40 litres of water per minute. There are obvious downsides to this method such as:

Massive volumes of water wasted
Considerable power use requiring large generators
Large number of vehicles/ operatives required
Operating restrictions due to noise (making night time works impossible in populated areas)
Liable to damage paving and stonework

The more environmentally friendly method of gum removal over the last ten years has used steam machines. The detergent is injected into the steam and fed through a lance to a small brush attachment which is used to agitate the gum for around 6 to 8 seconds until the gum is destroyed. This method uses approximately 2 litres of water and 2 litres of chemical per hour as the low pressure combined with high heat allows easier removal.

The downside of using steam is that a large generator is required to provide the 3000 watts needed to ensure constant steam. This causes problems in busy pedestrian areas as there are trailing electrical leads on the ground.

However, the biggest downside of steam machines is that it doesn't matter which machine is used, they all have the same inherent problem - steam and electricity do not mix well.

Prolonged usage of steam machines inevitably leads to unreliability - loss of pressure at best or failure of circuit boards at worst.

The Gumpak overcomes these issues because it is small and self contained. Steam doesn't need to be pumped over a long distance and never goes near the electrical components.
