New Year New Career: Paul Burgess From Learning to Earning

Both Andy and Mark, Spinaclean’s directors, decided to leave the stress and strains of commuting, long hours and company bureaucracy behind them and be their own boss. Starting their own external cleaning companies, both Mark and Andy spent years cleaning patios and driveways, clearing gutters and polishing up fascias before they directed their energies into developing quality professional exterior cleaning equipment, leading to skyVac™ and Slipstream Pro™ collection. Giving people the opportunity to become their own boss remains at the heart of what we do here, with our monthly training days being a great forum to come and learn the tried and trusted tricks of the trade, get marketing advice and build a support network of likeminded individuals. “It’s a real privilege to train, support, follow, and share those journeys with our customers and see their businesses flourish” says Pippa Neal, Head of Sales and Marketing, and Training Day Contributor. Over the next few weeks we want to share some of those stories with you and help you make the change in 2022.

Paul Burgess of PB Power Washing began his business because, like Mark and Andy, he wanted to leave the stress and strains behind. Paul had been working as a surveyor, but had had enough of working nights, awful hotels, and being away from his home and family. He started PB Power Washing with only a thousand black and white leaflets and a small pressure washer. After about a year, he booked himself onto the Spinaclean Training Day and has never looked back: “I’ve never earned as much money as I have now working for myself, and it’s not just that that is the motivation, it’s the actual pride in doing it.”

Over the years Paul has done many jobs to be proud of, giving him an incredible sense of job satisfaction, something that comes more with being your own boss. His amazing results mean that his clients are more than satisfied with his work (which is obvious in his before and after pictures)! His hard work and professional outlook means that his customers come back for continuous business.

When you are your own boss, you have complete control over your time, money, and energy; doing something you actually enjoy makes all the difference: “the best thing about being my own boss is the drive that it gives you to go out and earn money, to quote for jobs and to get jobs, and the pride in it. The motivation that I’ve got for life now is far more than I ever had in the past. So the best thing really is just having control over your own life.”
